Krushuna

Krushuna

34 km to the East from the town of Lovech, where the last downhills of the Balkan gradually turn into soft uplands, in touch witn the Devetaki plateau, in the folds between the marvelous Balkan Mountains and the golden Danube plain, the pretty village of Krushuna has huddled up.

With its rich history and culture, the village gets its name from the time of the Slavs settlement on these territories, in the 6th-7th century, which comes from the name of the bird kroshun - a kind of falcon, hawk. The village keeps its name Kroshun till the 10th century, whereupon it gradually transforms and reaches its final and present version Krushuna.

The enormous karst rock massif, the Maarata River, the amazing karst waterfall, the biggest travertine cascade in the country, as well as the second largest and one of the most beautiful water caves with great number of underground lakes; the mineral spring with proved healing properties, the forests rich in game, the Hesychast monastery, the preserved traditions and customs - all of this forms exceptional preconditions for development of rural, ecological, cave and hunting tourism as well as outdoor training and recreation.
